  • Official "Deal or No Deal" Season Premiere Info
    Friday, July 21, 2006
No more speculation. Here is the official word on the season premiere of "Deal or No Deal". The new season will be a weeklong event (Well, almost week long), on Monday September 18th with a 2 hour premiere. It will be an hour episode each night except Wednesday. Each new game will raise the top prize up a million until it's at the biggest ever: $6,000,000. Also, the Lucky Case game will give away $1,000,000 total during the entire week, with $200,000 on the first night. "Deal or No Deal" will be on it's bi-weekly schedule Mondays (8PM ET) and Fridays (9PM) starting Monday, September 25th.

That would be right. Friday at 9pm would surely be more sensible, but who's saying networks are sensible?

I was reading that if one of NBC shows do bad that they would do an extra night of deal or no deal. as much as i love deal or no deal please dont kill this show. although I dont believe that overexposure is what killed who wants to be a millionare but having celebrities on too much. please dont have celebrities playing this game because it would ruin this show. If NBC does a third show i would rather see it on friday to where I could watch it.

This raising the prize stuff each game is getting old. Isn't this like the third time they did that. NO MATTER WHAT THE TOP PRIZE IS NO ONE IS GOING TO BE SMART ENOUGH TO WIN!!!

P.S: You know one of the new shows is going to get canceled so you know damn well DoND is going to be on three nights (again).

It's possible to mention the word "smart" in a sentence about Deal or no Deal? ;P

Getting the season started that way is just a publicity stunt to get the ratings right from the start of the season. Let's take that $6 million game, for example. As an iterated match, in all statistical likelihood it probably won't produce *the* big winner, though you might see some damn big deals (which was indeed what I was hoping for in last season's finale... not quite.)

If they actually want to see a big win, perhaps they should take a page out of Millionaire's book (or Greed's first few episodes) and offer slow incremental jackpots over the entire season - say, going up by $25,000 an episode. That way, you can slowly build up excitement and, assuming a jackpot winner every 80 episodes or so as the analysis on Wikipedia's DonD page suggests, you'll get to give away a few million, get your viewers who will hopefully be caught in by the fact that "Hey! Those deals are getting higher every week! When's someone going to win!", and hopefully set the one-person game show winnings record that a syndicated program currently holds.
