  • "Deal or No Deal" Wednesday: Not Bad
    Thursday, April 13, 2006
Once more game shows crop up, we'll stop covering every "Deal or No Deal" rating. NBC's number 1 show achieved an 8.5/15, winning the time slot. "American Idol", which I still feel is ruining music even more than it already is, kicked the everliving crap out of everything else as always with a 15.5/24. The best news for me is that hands down the worst idea for a game or reality show ever, "Unan1mous", is going down with a 7.5/12.

This will be just a few opinions. I'm a giant "Deal" fan. I watched "Miljoenenjacht" on Talpa a few times and saw several Australian "Deal" episodes before NBC's edition came out. Despite my love, it needs a break. I really haven't watched a full episode since the pony stunt a few weeks ago. Something like the car is fine. If they want to do the car more, how about replacing $50,000 or $75,000 with a really nice car. However, the pony thing just ended the fun of "Deal" for a bit. The entire show is based on the battle of personal responsibility against greed, beyond randomly guessing cases. Throwing stunts like that in constantly take the greed part out.

I think it was GSNN who said, in one of their postings, they need to figure out what kind of show they are going to be: a "This is Your Life" special event show with some money thrown in, or a game based on the greed/ability to correctly weight odds/moral battle that every other edition on earth is. I enjoy the fact that we're trying to be different. However, enough is enough. Take the summer off. I bet you the show will be on Mondays and Thursdays next fall. Get rid of the giant introduction to the million dollars or make some sort of increasing jackpot every time someone doesn't pick the big case. Get rid of a special event happening every game. The game was a big success without events every single game. It can still be a big hit without it. I'm really looking foward to the syndicated edition of "Deal or No Deal" now (crosses fingers).
