Giving a team the money by spelling out the word instead of not giving them the last letter and having them earn it? Bad bad bad. Also, it looks like the chains go only downward, instead of up or down. The rattling thing when a letter is given will get old fast, especially after a guess. I like the quickie chain after the first puzzle.

I'll give Chain Reaction a chance but the snippet I saw doesn't look promising. Just my two centavos.

I agree with you about revealing all the letters - I mean COME ON. And Dylan Lane isn't doing much for me - everything he says sounds scripted. But other than that, this is looking to be a pretty good show.

Chain Reaction looks really slick, but I'm not sure such an old format can really cut it in 2006. It doesn't have enough either tension or laughs.

Clearly Mike 1 needs his ears fixing if he thinks the ladders only go downward.

I like the quickie chain idea, but isn't that a case of allowing the people who are ahead to get further ahead. Game show theory generally suggests this isn't a good idea...

As for Star Face, Ariel and Comic Sans scoring fonts! Guffaw. And it looks like it has the curse of Jep-style "only buzz when the question's finished", a bugbear of mine.

My ears are fine, thank you very much. I never said that the chains can go only downward. However, from the snippet I saw, the chain went downward. In addition, every commercial I've seen for the show has the chains going downward only. When I see proof showing otherwise, I'll retract my comment.

Chain Reaction- Looks promising. The set is cool, I don't mind the host much at all, interesting to watch, good gameplay, and nice sound effects. The speed round is a nice addition also. My only complaints are the cheap payouts and revealing the whole word. Hopefully there will be a diverse crowd of contestants also.

Star Face- Definitely not as good. Danny Bonaduche looks completely uninterested in being there and is acting like he just came off a huge bender. That Dave guy is completely annoying also and I wonder how often he gets out of the house but at least he won't be there again. The set is really cheap looking and too spacious. The idea for the game is nice though, I guess.

Some of you are right, I hate to admit it, but revealing the last letter? Not a good thing. Other than that, look nice to me, and that opening theme reminds me of that UK game show Chain Letters, and interesting too.

Yes, the Chain Reaction theme reminds me of Chain Letters. BAD memories. Having the first shot immediately after this contender for worst theme music ever as effectively the same shot as that at the same point on Millionaire (which has the best theme music ever) is a glorious irony, especially given the similarity in the set.

Star Face looks like it has 'guilty pleasure' potential. Bonaduce is crazy, that contestant Dave seemed to be trying to outdo him, they could have used a smaller set to be honest, David B is right about the ugly fonts, but it seems as though it's got real potential as a game.

      >>"My ears are fine, thank you very much. I never said that the chains can go only downward."

So what did you mean by: "Also, it looks like the chains go only downward"

      >>"However, from the snippet I saw, the chain went downward."

Yeah BUT... why the hell does the host say "Letter above or below?" - several times? If he's asking that choice then clearly the ladder can go up. It just so happens they call for a letter below each time.

I attended a `Starface' taping a few weeks ago while in SoCal for the Game Show Congress. A few notes...

-- Players cannot buzz in until the end of the question. However, there was one "multiple clue" question at each show taping where players could buzz in after each clue.

-- Questions are definitely "eye-popping" and target the younger demographic that networks crave. At least 3-4 questions I heard were of questionable taste.

-- Danny Bonaduce has potential as a host. He interacted well with the contestants and understood that the game and the contestants are what sells the show, not him. However, he did stumble with his words at times, and he was getting visibly frustrated with production errors (which were frequent).

-- As you may expect, a majority of the audience was paid to attend, cheer, whoop, etc. When I left the studio, I saw a huge line. At the head of the line was a guy handing the green stuff to audience members. Should have stood in that line :)

Dave, you don't get it. Of course you're given the option of taking a letter above a word or below another one. That has absolutely no bearing on the direction a chain can go.

I said it looks like the chains only go downward. That's from what I saw on ads and the snippet posted earlier. I have been informed that the connecting words can go up or down. So there's a retraction.

(Why do I feel like I'm arguing with a brick wall?)

I see, you can build the ladder up and down, but you're saying that the LOGIC of the way the ladder works could go up, potentially.

That's not the way it worked on the UK show. I'm surprised if it was like that before - wouldn't that be a bit hard for viewers to follow?
