  • "Stump the Schwab" Already Taping
    Thursday, July 27, 2006
This one came as a surprise to me. According to Craigslist, the newest season of "Stump the Schwab" has been taping the past week or so in New York City. This one REALLY flew under the radar. Embassy Row will not be handling production this year, so maybe it'll be better than previous seasons. No word on an airdate.

      Scwab Notes.

How come there are NO female players on that show? It's almost always, three fat guys in very nice suits, taking on the schwab? Also, what is a Schwab?

The Schwab in question is Howie Schwab, the first...and only, statistician ESPN has ever had.

Having been a former contestant on ESPN's 2-Minute Drill, I can tell you that ESPN does try and find female contestants to be on their quiz shows, but few, if any, audition.

There was a female contestant on the first season of Schwab, but she lost in the first round.

As far as Drill goes, a contestant coordinator mentioned to me that the show looked really hard for a female contestant during its 3-season run.

The coordinator also noted that they had one woman who was just below the standards to compete on the show during Season 1, but kept her under consideration for weeks before Season 1 taping began in hopes that she got better. They even brought her in for at least 2-3 auditions, but nothing panned out.

Y'know, I'd been wondering if either STS or Drill had any women audition or make it. (Well, I knew no woman ever made it on Drill; and I don't remember S1 of STS, sooo...)
