  • BuzzerBlog Moves Tonight!
    Saturday, September 30, 2006
This was a long time coming, but we finally finished the site. BuzzerBlog at Blogger has reached its end. We had just about enough of the server downage time and our restrictions, so we decided it was time to go. We are moving to FLASHGames^2 as of tonight at midnight. Here is our address situation:
www.buzzerblog.com- Still works. You can keep this.

buzzerblog.blogspot.com- Will be up for a bit for archive purposes, but will disappear in a few weeks/months

buzzerblog.flashgameshows.com- This will be Buzzer's new source address.

Again, www.buzzerblog.com will still work, but we are moving sites. What is in store for the new site? We are adding categories, so you can track all stories about "Deal or No Deal", GSN, and that sort of thing. We are adding spoilers of that day's shows and some opinion/editorial posts down the line. You readers are free to ask to write anything by emailing us at buzzerblog@flashgameshows.com. The site looks nearly the same. The attitude of the site will be the same. Our home has changed, and we are absolutely thrilled to be working with the extremely talented Chris Colbourne and Dan Berger. We'd like to thank you for your time here at Blogger and hope you enjoy the new home even more.

Des Lynam Quits Countdown at Christmas
The host of the hit UK game show "Countdown", Des Lynam, will be leaving the show at Christmas, his publicist said. The 64 year old host said he would leave now and save the "wear and tear", while co-host Carol Vorderman stated that he was "amazing" and a hit with his fans. The studio move from Leeds to London has been scrapped. I've seen some episodes of the show, and it is something I would truly love to see come to America. But on the UK front, does anyone else feel that Ms. Vorderman could easily carry the show on her own?

GameShowVideos.com has a very funny clip of Countdown with both Lynam and Vorderman.

    British "1 vs. 100" Pictures
    Friday, September 29, 2006

Here are a few pictures from the UK "1 vs. 100" set, which is relatively similar to the US set. However, I still think we, by far, have the superior rules. NBC starts "1 vs. 100" as a five-week event starting Friday, October 13th at 9PM ET.

    New GSN Website
    Wednesday, September 27, 2006
GSN released a brand new website tonight, and pretty nice if you ask me. TAKE A LOOK. It's not as clunky this time around, and much nicer on the eyes. I have to be honest, after talking to a lot of the staffers, that GSN crew is one of the hardest working and nicest I've ever been able to do things with, and their tech/web staff is just amazing.

    BREAKING NEWS: "1 VS. 100"
This just in: NBC will air a new game show, "One Versus 100" starting October 13th at 9PM ET, following "Deal or No Deal". The show will see contestants answer trivia questions, hoping to eliminate a mob of 100 and taking home a top prize of $1,000,000. The format did a complete turn-around from the test games, and it's actually quite enjoyable now. Bob Saget will host this five week event.

RUMOR CONTORL: TEMPTATION (SALE OF THE CENTURY) IN THE USA?
There was a teaster posting on Craigslist a bit ago about a show involving shopping looking for contestants. It was from a "Major Production Company" and was a "Popular Game Show", which meant it had to be established at some point. Now comes this new posting.

    NEW CRAIGSLIST POSSIBLE TEMPTATION POSTING

People must fly to Australia. It involves shopping with extreme discounts from money you earn. This basically HAS to be Temptation, doesn't it? I really hope this is, because Temptation is one of the best game shows that has been on TV in a very long time. For those of you that don't know, "Temptation" is the revival of "Sale of the Century", an old 80s game show, currently shown in Australia and recently sold to South Africa. Unless I'm completely wrong, and please tell me if I am, this is really looking like "Temptation" is coming to America.

GSN Calls Out Students to "Win With Words"
I believe we talked about this before, but hey, let's do it again. GSN, in partnership with Neutrogena, Mead School Supplies, Sharpie, and Sony Card, has created the "National Vocabulary Championship", which is aimed at engaging high school students in language arts. Several local events, sponsored by Time Warner and Cablevision, will take place, with the top scorers playing the qualifier in New York, and the champions will battle for $40,000 on a special on GSN. Also, GSN will air special "Win With Words" ads, featuring Whoopi Goldberg, Tom Bergeron, Jeff Probst, Chuck Woolery, and Shandi Finnessey.

"We created the NVC in the hopes that it will become a cultural phenomenon and get people from all over the country excited about the power of a good vocabulary, and understand that a great vocabulary is the key to their opportunities in life," said Dena Kaplan, senior VP of marketing for GSN, who created and is overseeing the program.

Edit: We have a bit more info courtesy of GSN. "Whose Line is it Anyway?" on DVD Today!
    Tuesday, September 26, 2006
Is "Whose Line is it Anyway?" the show with more primetime hours than any show in a long time, if not one of the top ever? It's been on US primetime since about 1998. ABC Family has aired a Monday superblock for a few weeks plus new episodes, and now there is a three hour block of it on Fridays. Comedy Central played with it in the 8:30PM slot before "The Colbert Report" started. BBC America is airing it at 8-9PM ET and 11-12PM ET. Now fans can watch it when they'd like at home. Warner Brothers released "Whose Line is it Anyway?" Season One:Volume One, containing the first ten episodes of the US run of the improv comedy (game) show that has been on the air internationally since 1988. At a price of $26.97, the DVD will come in two formats: the edition seen on ABC and an uncensored edition. Each edition will contain never-before-seen footage as well.

Networks Pump Out New Game Shows
    Monday, September 25, 2006
Hot on the heels of the popular NBC game show "Deal or No Deal" major networks are now coming out with their own formats, most of which already covered here. ABC has two game shows in their protection. One of which is "Set For Life", which will see people stand on a tile and hope it's a good one and not a bad one. Think "Deal or No Deal" for non-lazy people, or even a complete ripoff of "Powerball: Instant Millionaire". This game has moved up from its projected December release to November. Also, as reported ABC picked up the FOX show "Show Me The Money"-then-"Show Me What You Got"-now-"Show Me The Money" according to Craigslist. This show, which might be rather interesting, will see contestants answer trivia questions, with each right answer multiplying their money possibly into the millions or a wrong answer forcing a contestant to lose ungodly sums of money.

FOX is releasing their trivia show "The Rich List" in late fall. "The Rich List" will see contestants name items off a list, whether it be Beatles Albums or State Capitals. The winning team gets to go to the bonus round, where they can win up to $250,000 (according to early runs). Also, a team can stay on the show as long as they win. NBC will debut their trivia game show "1 vs. 100", hosted by Bob Saget, in either November or December. This goes against their original September 11th projected premiere date, which would have rushed the show to air. Recently, ABC dropped "The Con Test"/"PokerFace" and has projected to have lost the rights to "Who Wants to be a Millionaire." On the cable front, GSN will debut the foreign game show "That's The Question", hosted by Bob Goen, on October 2nd at 6:00PM ET.

As a little side note, I often get emails asking when new episodes of "I've Got A Secret" will be made, and quite frankly, we don't know when and if they will be made. However, you guys can help. Be sure to CLICK HERE to email GSN and ask for it to come back, go to the REQUEST-O-MATIC, or go to the GSN BUZZ to speak your mind about it.

"Deal or No Deal" Three Days a Week
    Saturday, September 23, 2006
NBC just couldn't resist, could they? "Deal or No Deal" will be airing on Fridays starting the week of September 25th and will go on for a few weeks like this. Terrific. The show is getting rather low ratings as it is, getting in the 6.5 range the past few nights. Is adding a third night a smart idea really? If they would move it off of the Thursday time slot, which they need to do ASAP, and just leave it Monday/Friday at 8PM ET, that would be fine. I am a fan of "Deal or No Deal", and I'm even getting sick of it at this point.

"Today" Cast Members Versus Meredith Vieira on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?"
I found this to be funny. The WNBC site has a video clip of the "Today" cast members (Matt Lauer, Al Roker, and Ann Curry) playing "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" with Meredith Vieira as host as always. Ann Curry got the team to $25,000. This was probably a nice little promotion for "Millionaire" too, since I know many fans of the ABC version do not know that a syndicated version exists. Watch the video clip at the link below.

Toys R Us Launches "Deal or No Deal" Campaign
Toys R Us today announced an agressive marketing campaign for the number one NBC show "Deal or No Deal." This campaign will bring the fun and excitement of the television show to the stores, as people have a chance to win anywhere from nothing to $1,000,000. On September 28th, Howie Mandel, host of the show, will be at the massive "Toys R Us" in Times Square, New York City, to officially open the "Deal or No Deal" games boutique at 1PM ET. Then, on October 1st and for four weeks, Toys R Us newspaper circulars will include a game piece that has two briefcases: one says "DEAL" and the other "NO DEAL". Once you take it into the store unscratched, if you take the Deal, you will get 10% off any item. However, if you take No Deal, you get what is in that briefcase, which could be hundreds of thousands of prizes like an XBox 360, MP3 players, giant Toys R Us gift cards, or even $1,000,000. However, some have nothing in them. If it is empty, you still get a small discount at least.

"Since airing late last year, Deal or No Deal has become an overnight sensation. Our campaign will leverage the same intrigue, which is sure to resonate with fans of the hit show," said Greg Ahearn, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Toys "R" Us, U.S. "Whether it's an in-store discount or the chance to walk away with $1 million, the Deal or No Deal promotion is a great opportunity for us to translate the show's popularity into the retail arena and create excitement in our stores before the holidays even begin."

Vivian Glover from Springfield, MO, and Heather Bare of Spokane, WA, are last night's winners and received $200,000. New "Deal or No Deal", "Jeopardy!", and "Wheel of Fortune" Games
Tons of new home games coming out soon. First Jakks, famous for Plug-and-Play television games, will be creating a "Deal or No Deal" edition to come out at an undisclosed time, according to Yahoo! News. The game is projected to cost roughly $20 according to our show sources. Also, Global Star Software will be making a computer game edition of "Deal or No Deal" due in the holiday season also at roughly $20. The game will feature will feature Howie Mandel, the models, and The Banker. Not only that, players can make their own board and put anything they wanted. Hey, it would be perfect to see what chore your kids should do that day. Will it be making your bed or mowing the grass, with a Bank Offer of washing the dishes? There will also be a multi-player mode and several mini-games to play.

MGA Entertainment also announced they are making DVD games based off of "Jeopardy!" and "Wheel of Fortune." "Jeopardy!" is projected to come out in spring 2007, while "Wheel of Fortune" will come in early 2008. MGA will be using new technology to make the "Jeopardy!" experience even better, with realistic graphics, wireless buzzers, and supplemental quiz packs. Hopefully these will be better than the abortion of the job they did with "The $100,000 Pyramid" DVD game.

However, as usual, the second hour's ratings rose; up to a 10.2/15 and top rated again. CBS had the number one rated show for the entire evening with "CSI: Miami" 11.2/7. GSN finally announced "That's The Question" today. The word scramble/trivia/puzzle game will debut October 2nd at 6PM ET. Basically, the same exact rules here apply.

    THAT'S THE QUESTION RULES

The only different thing is from my own error. This is no round 3 as far as we can tell. It seems like that's just a speed-up round if time is running short. Winner of the game gets $500 and the chance to turn it into $5,000. "Entertainment Tonight" former host Bob Goen will reign over this new fast-paced word game show being produced by Scott Sternberg.

NBC opened up a brand new "Deal or No Deal" website last night, and it states that The Banker will be doing a live blog on September 18th, the date of the season 2 premiere. The game says "Coming Soon" also, so many they are improving the game, since it needs MAJOR work.

GSN August Ratings: Same as Always
I'm having computer problems today, so the posts will be short and sweet. GSN has received a .4 rating for the month of August. This is just about the same level as they had last month. Are they ever going to get above .4? .5 can't be that far away!

A "Show Me What You Got" Casting First
    Saturday, September 09, 2006
Understand my shock when I read this posting on Craigslist. Yes, ABC is still casting for "Show Me What You Got". Yes, the top prize is still $5,000,000. Yes, they are still casting for stereotypes, but this one is better than the "assholes" they were searching for. ABC's new game show is searching for really smart people, i.e. brainiacs, geniuses, intellects, and people of that sort. When was the last time a game show actually wanted smart people? Anyway, if you want in, you know where to look. (To the left)

NBC Shoots Another Game Show Pilot
Craigslist is reporting a new NBC game show, "Nothing But the Truth" is shooting a pilot. In it, you can win thousands by just answering questions. The catch, you ask? You are hooked up to a lie detector machine. Basically, we gather that if you blip, you lose all your money, but you are given the option to stop apparently at certain points. If you want in on the pilot, just click the link.

Just a side note, anyone else really miss The Chair? This only reminded me how great that show was.

"Stump the Schwab"'s New Season Starts Monday
    Friday, September 01, 2006
ESPN really wants a successful season, don't they? The ESPN game show "Stump the Schwab" will have it's 4th season premiere on Monday, September 4th at 7PM ET on ESPN Classic. It took me flipping by channels at 1AM to find it, but there you are. Embassy Row is now working on the show this season, so who knows what will happen. It's fairly evident that Schwab is returning though.
