Breaking News: GSN In Final Agreements With Time Warner Cable |
Saturday, April 29, 2006 |
This is a breaking and developing story. GSN is in final discussions with Time Warner Cable to keep it on the digital tier instead of the Sports Package + GSN, in which Versus (OLN) is to be going soon. Many area's Time Warner Cable affiliates have been contacted, and many areas have said they reached an agreement. However, we are not certain on all locations. Check back for official word when it happens, but it's looking good.

UK + US "Deal or No Deal" Board Game |
|
Both the UK and US editions of "Deal or No Deal" are getting board games right around the same time. Here's the UK edition, which even includes a phone. If you thought one game was pathetic, Endemol and NBC are presenting US audiences with four, count em four, games for "Deal", all listed here. Incuded are a handheld, electronic table top, non-electronic table top, and card game editions of the show. Each play basically the same, so get what you want. A DVD edition is rumored to be out soon as well. Check back with Buzzer soon as we do a contest giving away both a UK and US DoND game to a lucky reader. |

GSN March Ratings: Same as always |
Friday, April 28, 2006 |
I think we see a trend in GSN's ratings. Cableworld published their monthly cable ratings roundup, putting GSN as it's usual spot of .4, with a headcount of 219,000. This puts it ahead of GSN2 (Or CNBC as it is really), Toon Disney, OLN, The Science Channel, Discovery Health, Oxygen, and WE (not the new Nintendo game system). Hopefully I've Got A Secret can get it to .5. Could the classics be holding the ratings back? Bad thing is that if they removed more classics, it wouldn't be good for the ratings. New seasons of Lingo and I've Got A Secret started in April, so we'll see. |

Ever wonder what "The Price is Right"'s Ratings Are? |
|
We've gotten several emails asking about "The Price is Right"'s ratings. Finally, we did find some information about them. "Price" gets a 1.3, which is tied with Guiding Light and The View and places it in 10th place. 9 soap operas are above it. Starting this weekend, we will be placing all syndication and game show ratings on Saturdays or Sundays.
Note, this is in the key 18-49 demo, however in the women's category. |

UK "The Price Is Right" Start Date |
Thursday, April 27, 2006 |
The UK's new edition of "The Price is Right", hosted by Joe Pasquale, will start it's new series on May 8th at 5PM, not against "Deal or No Deal", on ITV. The new hit edition of the US game show will see contestants play games for thousands of pounds in cash and prizes. Short posts are nice occasionally, aren't they. Each episode will be 30 minutes and may follow the path of "Bruce's Price is Right", which is 3 games, wheel, and showcase. |

BREAKING NEWS: BBC Buys 1 VS 100 |

BREAKING NEWS: NBC PICKS UP "1 VS. 100" |
|
Score another one for Endemol and Talpa. NBC has picked up the hit Dutch show "Een Tegen 100", better known as 1 VS 100 on our side of the pond. It's what the main game of Winning Lines should have been. 1 audience member is chosen to battle 100 audience members in an attempt, for the NBC version, to win $3,000,000. No word yet of when the show will begin, or who the host is. The season finale of "Een Tegen 100" will air this Sunday at 3:45 on Talpa. We'll provide a link closer to time. Main difference from the Dutch to the US version: they are apparently giving you the option to walk out of the game at any time, much unlike the Dutch version, where with one miss, you lose. We're making this about a 5% rumor until we get official word, but this is looking good.y

"Deal or No Deal" Monday Wins Time Slot |
Tuesday, April 25, 2006 |
NBC's hit game show "Deal or No Deal" won it's 8PM time slot with a 9.6/15, one of it's better ratings. However, Monday is starting to show some steep competition. CBS's comedy block of "Two and a Half Men" at 9PM started at 9.5/14. CBS's "CSI: Miami" won the evening at 12.1/19, making "Deal" the 2nd biggest rated show of the night. |

"I've Got A Secret" Earns .4 On Premiere Week |
Monday, April 24, 2006 |
Chalk "I've Got A Secret" up as a success for GSN. The show, in it's premiere week, earned a very impressive .4, which is 33% higher than Match Game had. This also means it's up there as one of GSN's top rated shows and outdraws mostly everything in daytime/evening, which is impressive because of "Secret" being up against the Comedy Central and Adult Swim power block in cable.

Buzzer Interviews Mark L. Walberg |
Thursday, April 20, 2006 |
I recently had the privilege of talking to the host of GSN's new special "2005 National Three Card Poker Championship", Mark L. Walberg. Watch as poker champions battle in Las Vegas for a million dollar top prize. The show will air on Friday, April 21st and Friday, April 28th at 9PM ET on GSN.
For the record, I am AD and Mark is MW.
AD: Thanks for your time, Mr. Walberg. I talked to you a while ago, but just for people that didn’t read that interview, can you tell me a little about yourself?
MW: Hmmm…I’m 43. Live in Southern California with two beautiful kids. I’ve been married 18 years.
AD: Any time I talk to you, I have to ask you this question because it was my favorite GSN show: tell us a bit about working on Russian Roulette. I still get weekly emails from people begging for it to come back, why it was cancelled, or where the drop goes.
MW: It was a favorite show of mine as well. People always ask me where do they drop. The drop is about 6 feet deep and there’s a big pad down there. My favorite thing was looking down the hole and seeing the shock on the contestants’ faces! It was really a shame they didn’t continue RR. It was a fun show to work on!
AD: One of the better shows out of recent years was On The Cover. That went through an interesting time, with a new look for the show, minor rule revision, and PAX falling through. How was that whole experience like?
MW: Truthfully, not so great! The studio was tiny. There was no audience, which I really hate. There was also a bit of stress in the office; but all in all, when it comes down to actually doing the shows- it was still pretty fun!
AD: On to your main show right now: Three Card Poker National Championship. How much of a poker fan are you? I thought I saw you in one of the World Poker Tour Hollywood Home Games, but I could be horribly wrong.
MW: I’m a big poker fan and play quite a bit, but this is a table game called “Three Card Poker”. Not a lot of skill needed, but betting strategy is key. I was asked to co-host the special and had a great time in Vegas taping it. It’s always fun to give away a million dollars!
AD: Can you explain to us a little bit about the game and the program? The game is pretty simple- you get three cards and you play the best poker hand.
MW: There are three bets- Pair Plus- Ante and Bet. The show is the culmination of regional tourneys on their way to the finals and a chance at $1,000,000.
AD: I’m guessing it wasn’t bad working with Miss USA Runner Up Danielle Demski, was it?
MW: She’s really a sweetheart and easy to work with. I’m sure we’ll see more of her in the future.
AD: Last time we talked you were working on a few TV shows with your production company. As an aspiring TV creator/producer, I’m curious if you have anything new on your slate.
MW: I just completed a documentary on a singing group I used to be in called the Young Americans. They taught a music workshop in a youth prison in Germany. It turned out pretty great!
AD: Just for fun and totally off the wall, ever think about going on Dancing With The Stars?
MW: Only if my wife, Robbi, can be my partner. She’s a great dancer!
AD: If there’s anything else you’d like to tell fans, go for it.
MW: Not really, except I’m always so grateful for the support. I’m always thrilled to talk to people when they come up to me on the street or in an airport. So, if you see me…don’t be a stranger!
AD: I can’t thank you enough for your time, Mr. Walberg.
MW: My pleasure! |

"Celebrity Cooking Showdown" Called Off: More "Deal" Comes to NBC |
|
NBC's newest failure, "Celebrity Cooking Showdown" has been cancelled. The rest of the episodes will air online. In this last minute schedule change, NBC will air "Will & Grace" and "My Name is Earl" tonight, Thursday, at the 8PM timeslot. NBC will rerun "Deal or No Deal"'s, NBC's biggest rated show, 24th episode rerun on Friday at 8PM. "Celebrity Cooking Showdown" started off semi-decently, with 5.7/9, mostly from "Deal or No Deal"'s leadin, with "Deal" getting 9.2. Tuesday plunged big time, 2.4/4, and Wednesday barely improving at 3.2/5.
By the way, can someone please explain to me how "Unan1mous" is apparently semi-popular? It has to be from the "American Idol" leadin. I finally saw an episode, and it's the worst game/reality show I've ever seen.

"Deal or No Deal" Monday Ratings: Back to 9.0s |
Wednesday, April 19, 2006 |
"Deal or No Deal"'s Monday, April 17th show was back to normal big standards. The show got a 9.2/15, winning the time slot as always and was the 2nd highest rated show of the night (A rerun of CSI beat it). It went down hill when NBC's new weeklong event, "Celebrity Cooking Showdown" debuted. Even with a crossover at the very end of the episode with Alan Thicke, the show only managed to get 5.7/9. Want even more sadness for them? Their Tuesday show bombed horrifically with a 2.4/4. Even "Gilmore Girls" on The WB beat it. We'll begin doing syndicated ratings effective this weekend. |

GSN's "I've Got A Secret" Review |
|
I finally got to sit down and see GSN's new edition of "I've Got A Secret". GSN has done a lot of revivals, updates and original takes on shows. In all honesty, their only truly original game shows of any recent time are Cram, WinTuition, and BallBreakers. However, "I've Got A Secret" is either their best or second best take on a show ever. Getting the chance to talk to Burt Dubrow a few months ago (Yes, my phone is now fixed), I had high expectations. GSN's "Secret" website has clips of it, so I was anticipating it even more from that. This show far and away blew my expectations.
It's fairly safe (to anyone that knows me) to say I am very liberal, so the gay panel thing didn't bug me at all. Actually, I felt it was a refreshing twist. The entire panel had something in common beyond being has-been stars like any other panel revival of the past decade or so. This panel works together well, apparently likes one another very much, and really has a feel for each other. Oxygen's "Secret", while I did enjoy it, just seemed to have the stereotypical panel: the smart one, the gay one, the has-been former star, and the rotating panel member. They really didn't seem to blend together that well. This group really mixes perfectly.
The set, logo, and entire look is extremely classic. The set looks very much like classic Password with the color-changing neon mix of our times. Bil Dwyer is a terrific host. He really deserved another chance after the terrific show of "Dirty Rotten Cheater" was cancelled. The prizes are perfect for a panel show. As Mr. Dubrow stated, "If you win, you get a little something. If you lose, you get a little something." The secrets are really entertaining also. From the hoop lady to the ass-cheek pencil man, this show fits a nice night-club feel, as it should at 11:30PM ET. I'm a bit shocked that they also have some half decent celebrities also, unlike Lingo. Upcoming celebrities are Corbin Bernsen and George Wendt (He's becoming the GSN celebrity show whore, isn't he?).
They have done shows like Russian Roulette at 11PM before, but a hard trivia game just doesn't fit. This is a low-brain, high-fun game. The laughs, set, panel, look, and everything else is here. There were extreme worries in the beginning about GSN playing up the fact that the panel is gay, but this is not the case. If you've had a hard day at work and just want to sit back and have a few laughs, GSN's "I've Got A Secret" is your calling. The expert casting and classic look to the show makes this truly GSN's perfect entry into the late-night television world. A FULL episode listing will be available soon. |

Did ABC Really Lose "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" |
Monday, April 17, 2006 |
We were tipped off by this today. ABC has erased all existance of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" from their website. The online game is completely gone. We googled the show, and ABC says the page is missing. This includes "Super Millionaire". There are heavy rumors that the "Millionaire-Play It!" attraction is leaving Walt Disney World. The current host of "Millionaire", Meredith Vieira, is heading to NBC. Again, this is still in the Rumor Has It file, but all signs are pointing that ABC has lost the rights to Millionaire, which were rumored to be gone in April/May 2006. Hey NBC: Need something that's a hit and cheaper than "Joey" to make?
Update: ABC is giving no comment about losing the rights to Millionaire. When a network doesn't give a comment, it's at least, in my experience, the truth. Take that for what you will. But, again, this is still in the rumor mill until we get official word. I did confirm with many people, though, that it was stated at Game Show Congress 4 that ABC does lose the rights to Millionaire in May 2006. It's nearly too late. So we'll be hearing about "Millionaire"'s new contestant call, or........... *cough*NBC*cough*. |

"Deal or No Deal" Season Finale: June 5th |
|
May I say thank you, NBC, from the bottom of my heart. NBC announced they are going to give "Deal or No Deal" a MUCH deserved summer break. The season finale will air on June 5th and will be sent off with a giant prize pool, that of which we don't know (we'll get ahold of NBC). NBC stated they are not going to use the show again until September, hoping to land it only once a week, with twice a week as a last resort. It will, most likely, air Mondays at 8PM ET. "Deal" has won every timeslot it has aired in (except for when "American Idol" switched places.) According to B&C, it will have aired 33 hours of Deal within this one season alone.
“It's a big hit right now, but it's making me nervous,” says Regis Philbin, who hosted the ABC version of Millionaire through its meteoric rise and its fall. “It's getting a big number for them and they could use the numbers. But I hope they don't run it into the ground.”
David Goldberg, president of Endemol USA, stated “Three times a week for an extended period of time is too much, and I've been very vocal about that. We are constantly talking to NBC, and they get it. We have a great relationship.”
The syndicated version is also still in planning. Just hours after Kingworld and Sony announced their syndicated game show hour, Goldberg had this to say. “We'd love to see it play as a daytime strip. It would be important to preserve the key elements of the game but not have it be an absolute facsimile of the network show.” This is planned for Fall 2007 or Fall 2008.

It was announced late last night that Kingword and Sony Pictures are reuniting to have a one-hour game show block in Fall 2007. Early speculation states that they will be bringing one classic show and one original to the table, and that this is a move to beat "Deal or No Deal"'s fall 2007 syndicated announcement. Despite a decline in game-show ratings this season, King World Chairman Roger King says he is looking for an enthusiastic response from the marketplace.

Buzzer First Year Birthday + Happy Easter |
Friday, April 14, 2006 |
Today is Buzzer's first year online. In this one year, we've gotten over 130,000 hits, which is absolutely amazing to me. For a news website about a television genre that was basically dead a year ago, we never in our wildest dreams figured that many people would come. For this, I have so many people to thank. First off, a majority of our fan base started with the GSN and Invision Game Show Boards. Without these two places letting me whore Buzzer constantly up until a few months ago, we would have never gotten anywhere near where we are today. Second off, a GIGANTIC amount of thanks goes to GSN. When I contacted GSN in the beginning for some ratings information, I never figured I would develop such a relationship with them. They've given us ungodly opportunities and let me talk to extremely nice people like Ian Valentine and more. For that, I am extremely greatful. I can't leave out NBC in this also. We've been huge supporters of "Deal or No Deal" months before NBC even announced it, plugging the Talpa version. NBC contacted us and gave us many things, including an interview with Scott St. John.
Several publications gave us major boosts. Our first major boost in hits came from TVTattle. Whatever made them think of coming to us for news in the game/reality show world, we owe them a lot. USAToday and Entertainment Weekly also featured us once which gave us a lot. It would take me a long time to list all the sites that link to us, but I'll mention the major helpers. Bother's Bar has really given us a boost in the UK market, somewhere we didn't ever expect to go. GSNN gave me my start, so there's no way I could forget to mention them. FLASHGames^2, Joytube, and Pacdudegames also all helped us an incredible amount. Mike Klauss from ClassicGameShows.com also helped out a lot. I know there's a ton of people I forgot, but I don't have a good memory. Just everyone: thanks for being so loyal and coming to us for all your news needs. We're going to be even bigger in the 2006-2007 season.
I'd like to wish all of you an extremely good Easter. Have a safe weekend and be good to your families. We're taking the rest of the weekend off, but we will be back Monday. If there's any breaking news, though, we'll get it up. |

"Deal or No Deal" Wednesday: Not Bad |
Thursday, April 13, 2006 |
Once more game shows crop up, we'll stop covering every "Deal or No Deal" rating. NBC's number 1 show achieved an 8.5/15, winning the time slot. "American Idol", which I still feel is ruining music even more than it already is, kicked the everliving crap out of everything else as always with a 15.5/24. The best news for me is that hands down the worst idea for a game or reality show ever, "Unan1mous", is going down with a 7.5/12.
This will be just a few opinions. I'm a giant "Deal" fan. I watched "Miljoenenjacht" on Talpa a few times and saw several Australian "Deal" episodes before NBC's edition came out. Despite my love, it needs a break. I really haven't watched a full episode since the pony stunt a few weeks ago. Something like the car is fine. If they want to do the car more, how about replacing $50,000 or $75,000 with a really nice car. However, the pony thing just ended the fun of "Deal" for a bit. The entire show is based on the battle of personal responsibility against greed, beyond randomly guessing cases. Throwing stunts like that in constantly take the greed part out.
I think it was GSNN who said, in one of their postings, they need to figure out what kind of show they are going to be: a "This is Your Life" special event show with some money thrown in, or a game based on the greed/ability to correctly weight odds/moral battle that every other edition on earth is. I enjoy the fact that we're trying to be different. However, enough is enough. Take the summer off. I bet you the show will be on Mondays and Thursdays next fall. Get rid of the giant introduction to the million dollars or make some sort of increasing jackpot every time someone doesn't pick the big case. Get rid of a special event happening every game. The game was a big success without events every single game. It can still be a big hit without it. I'm really looking foward to the syndicated edition of "Deal or No Deal" now (crosses fingers). |

"Deal or No Deal" Monday: Respectable |
Wednesday, April 12, 2006 |
Nothing like the ungodly ratings of last week on NBC's "Deal or No Deal", but still not bad. The show at 8PM ET (Monday) got a 8.9/15. This, yet again, won the time slot, beating "The King of Queens" at 5.7/10. NBC barely placed 3rd for the evening because of severely dropped off audiences for a two hour "Apprentice" (5.9/9;6.1/10). NBC's overall for Monday, April 10th was 7.0/11 with NBC nearly in a three way tie for 2nd in the key demographic, one tenth of a point behind at 3.9. I swear that the next post I make, there will not nearly be this many commas. |

Endemol Interesting in Buying "Millionaire" |
Tuesday, April 11, 2006 |
File this one in the category of "I called it months ago" again. Endemol, who owns "Deal or No Deal" is interesting in buying the rights to the massive hit show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire", which has been on a long hiatus because ABC's too stupid to not let the contract run out. Celador announced they were selling the game in March. This also means that, if Endemol gets Millionaire, Endemol will become nearly the biggest if not the biggest worldwide name in game and reality shows in a very short time.

The winner will get a talent deal with NBC and a Bravo comedy special. Treasure Hunters is described as an ""Amazing Race"-meets-Indiana Jones competition". It will first air on Sunday, June 18th and move to it's regular time slot on Mondays. Teams travel around the world looking for burried treasure, crossing historic sites, and solving clues to move on to their next location. Finally, a semi-"American Idol" ripoff called "America's Got Talent", produced by Simon Cowell, premieres Wednesday, June 21st. There will be a half hour results show Thursdays at 8:30PM beginning July 13th. |

"Jeopardy!" Online Contestant Search A Success |
|
According to Broadcasting and Cable, "Jeopardy!"'s online audition quiz had nearly 100,000 people trying out over a period of 3 days. That is four times greater than the potential candidates that the show coordinators meet in a year. Traditionally, 400 people will be chosen to appear over the season. If you missed the online test, don't worry. You can still try out soon in these locations in the spring and summer.

GSN Airs Mother's Day Family Feud Tribute |
Monday, April 10, 2006 |
Sure, when I think mothers, I think Richard Dawson (He's one bad mother). GSN will pay tribute to moms everywhere by airing a Family Feud marathon from 9AM till 3PM on Sunday, May 14th. These episodes will be hosted by either Richard Dawson or Ray Combs and will feature women as team leaders.
NOTE: I just changed the date to May 14th. I somehow forgot this was April and thought it was May. My mistake. The date for the marathon is Sunday, May 14th. |

"Anything To Win": Soap Opera Wars |
|
GSN's breakout series "Anything To Win" will feature an episode entitled Soap Opera Wars on Sunday, April 16th at 8PM ET. Soaps, known for being a tad bit over the top, this episode will feature what the stunts the shows pull to attract viewers and win the ratings wars, especially in times around Sweeps. This will specifically focus on a groundbreaking stunt by "Days of Our Lives", by unleashing a serial killer in the town of Salem and killing half of the cast. "Soap operas are misunderstood and underappreciated. As any actor who has joined a soap after doing prime time or films will tell you, there isn’t a more demanding job in the business. Daytime is filled with talented performers whose fans are fiercely loyal, and storylines that are complicated and compelling. It's no wonder so many prime time shows draw talent and plots from the genre," said Stephanie Sloane, Editor of Soap Opera Digest.
Again, this episode will air on Sunday, April 16th at 8PM ET on GSN. |

Online Game Show Business Booming |
Sunday, April 09, 2006 |
Two of the major online game show websites came back today after a hiatus, whether it be long or short. One of the sites is one of the most anticipated things for online game show fans, and one of our most commented things. FLASHGames² finally came back, with an all new site. All the games you love to play, like Classic Concentration, Dream House, and, my personal favorite, Russian Roulette, are all there for the taking. New things are coming to the site also, like Game of the Week, Multimedia, and Game Show News. The FLASHGames² group is also doing several Hollywood projects that will be revealed as time goes on. Be sure to check them out.
Another is a new fan favorite, Joytube. In a short period of time, their site gained thousands of new registered members, huge amounts of hits and gameplay, and the recognition from the game show world that it deserves. Various games featured on Joytube are Name The Price, Wheel to Spin, Win A Million, and Banker's Deal. They have a brand new look to their website, axing the message boards, but adding a place for news, FAQ, links, and more. Please check the site out.
We couldn't go on without mentioning Pacdude Games. The site recently got a brand new look and many hits because of their "Deal or No Deal" game which was recently taken away. Pacdude Games features many games, like Blockbusters and Press Your Luck. |

UK "Deal or No Deal" Goes Twice Daily For A Week |
|
According to our British friends, the British smash hit edition of "Deal or No Deal" will be having two episodes a day starting on June 12th. The shows will air at 4.15PM and 8.00PM. This is just here for this week as an alternative to the live World Cup match. They will also end up celebrating their 200th episode during this time and will also somewhere along the line have a "Hall of Fame" episode. This will show a clip of a previous winner or extreme loser and ask them what their life has been since their "Deal" game. |

"Deal or No Deal" Destroys "Amazing Race" on Wednesday |
|
Before we begin, I'd first just like to say that I called it. "Deal or No Deal"'s Wednesday show achieved an 8.8/15, a bit low for the show and really low compared to Monday at 9PM. However, it destroyed "The Amazing Race" at 5.0/8. I have to say that the gimmicks on "Deal" are getting annoying. A pony, guys? I know some people of Endemol and NBC read this. The game is apparently good as it is. The Hummer offer was OK. The pony crossed the line. The next episode is Monday at 8PM ET. According to GSNN, "Deal" is taking a break after May Sweeps. |

"Whose Line is it Anyway" Goes to BBC America |
Thursday, April 06, 2006 |
ABC Family's reruns/new episodes will still air, but BBC America has apparently picked up some episodes of the hit British version of "Whose Line is it Anyway?" As far as we can tell, it's the final season, which was taped in America, that is airing. It shows every day at 8PM ET and is hosted by Clive Anderson, all on BBC America. |

Al Jazeera Plans 60 Million Dollar Game Show |
|
Middle East television station Al Jazeera is planning a September airdate for a competition show in which if everyone has a 100% success rate, the show will give away 60 million dollars. The theme: basketball. The show is called "Lifetime Shots" and it has three parts and 15 episodes. From the press release, here are the rules.
Slam Dunk: This is open to all Arab professional basketball players. The rating will be based on synchronization of movement and style of scoring. The winner will be decided by a jury comprising former players from the Arab world and the US. Former NBA player and King of Slam Dunks Dominic Wilkins will be the head of the jury. Prize money of $25,000 to $50,000. Three-point shots: This is also open only to Arab professional players. The winner will be the one who scores maximum points in two minutes. Prize money of $25,000 to $50,000. Lifetime Shots: This is open to public. Viewers can enter the contest by sending a text message, telephone call or e-mail message. Participants for each episode will be selected randomly by a computer. There will be about 10 players per episode and will have a chance to shoot from different distances, marked by different coloured lines. A person who 'baskets' from the nearest point will get $100 and the reward will increase in proportion to the distance with $1m up for grabs for the one who 'baskets' from the other end.

Big news for all fans of the show. My personal favorite worldwide edition of "Deal or No Deal", titled "Miljoenenjacht" returns to Dutch TV station Talpa on April 30th. Last season, the timeslot was around 3:30-3:45PM ET, but it may change. The reason we bring it up is that you can watch the show online at a link we'll provide later. We'll probably have a "Miljoenenjacht" chat at the same time also. Be sure to join us as we watch someone try to win 5,000,000 euro and as we lust after Linda DeMol.

UK "Deal or No Deal" Banker Revealed |
|
Many people thought they knew who it was, but the truth has come out. The Banker in England is Glenn Hugill, and ex-Coronation Street actor. A computer tells him what an offer SHOULD be around, but as proven by offers of 8 pounds, he makes the final decision. He stated "It's a vital role - he makes the contestants agonise over decisions, and that's what makes it so popular. This is the first offer to reveal my identity and the answer is - no deal." Channel 4 said "The identity will never be revealed." Hugill, 41, is the series producer and host of "The Mole" in England.

National Lingo Contestant Search Repost |
Tuesday, April 04, 2006 |
GSN just sent us an official press release for "Lingo"'s national contestant search, so I figured I should post this again with more info.
GSN's "Lingo" co-host Shandi Finnessey will be traveling the country, searching for contestants for the 6th season of the hit game show. GSN will also, as stated before, be doing the Online Lingo Tournament of Champions again. Learn more by going to GSN's Lingo website at this link. Senior Vice President of Marketing Dena Kaplan stated “LINGO is a fun, addictive word game whether people are watching at home or playing the game online. We are giving fans around the country both -- online Lingo players via the LINGO Grand Prize Tournament as well as local LINGO viewers with the Contestant Search-- an opportunity to test their smarts for a chance to compete on the next season of the show. We are also very pleased to be working with our national presenting sponsor, Purina’s Friskies and co-branding the Contestant Search events with our cable affiliates Time Warner and Comcast and partnering online." Just my opinion, but the partnering with Time Warner is a bit ironic because of recent events, isn't it? Here are the tour locations.
Boston, MA: 4/14, 10AM to 2PM- WZLX Finish Line Festival Boylston Plaza in front of Prudential Center Sacramento, CA: 4/22, 2PM to 5PM- Westfield Galleria at Roseville Center Court (1151 Galleria Bvld., Roseville, CA, 95678) Philadelphia, PA: 4/29, 2PM to 5PM- King of Prussia Mall, Nordstrom Court at The Plaza (160 North Gulph Road, King of Prussia, PA, 19406) Akron, OH: 5/6, 2PM to 5PM- Summit Mall Center Court (3265 West Market Street, Akron, OH, 44333) Dallas, TX: 5/13, 2PM to 5PM- Stonebriar Centre Center Court (2601 Preston Road, Frisco, TX, 75034) All events are sponsored by Purina and Comcast/Time Warner Cable |

"Deal or No Deal" Destroys CBS: NBC Wins Monday |
|
A few notes.
1- NBC is now apparently not regretting the two hour "Deal or No Deal" 2- Anyone who says that "Deal or No Deal" is not a hit now is a fool 3- "The Amazing Race" might be in big trouble
"Deal or No Deal" crushed everything in its path on Monday's double show. The 8PM slot got the usual level: 9.7/15. This was first for that time slot as usual, beating CBS's "comedy" block. 9PM is where "Deal" got scary. It increased at a gigantic rate, getting an 11.5/17. This is one of show's highest ratings ever. It easily beat CBS's Final Four with 8.4/12. I think we might be seeing more "Deal" at 9PM soon. |

Lingo Begins Season 5 Tonight! |
Monday, April 03, 2006 |
GSN's hit game show "Lingo" breaks a GSN record by having the fifth full season starting tonight at 7:30PM ET. We imagine season 4 will continue at 7:00PM. The show, hosted by Chuck Woolery and Shandi Finnessey, tests people knowledge of five-lettered words in a Mastermind style as they draw balls out of their hoppers, hoping to achieve a Lingo, score big points, and win the game. Little set changes are seen this season except for an apparent Lingo logo on Chuck's monitor. New this season is the Super Lingo Jackpot. In Bonus Lingo, if a team gets any Lingo, they get $5,000. If they get a Lingo on their first draw, they win $10,000 PLUS $1,000 every day until it's won. If last season's Super Lingo payout frequency can be used as a guide for this season of 65 (70 or 75 because of Hawaiian Week in season 4?), we'll be seeing some jackpots nearing $40,000. Special episodes this season entail Hawaii Week (like stated before, left over from last season), Fiesta Week, and more special episodes. Lingo Season 5 debuts Monday, April 3rd at 7:30PM ET on GSN. |

"Deal or No Deal" Friday Ratings: Number One Again! |
Saturday, April 01, 2006 |
"Deal or No Deal" was the number 1 rated show on Friday, but even that couldn't help NBC win the evening. "Deal" got a 8.3/15, down from the rest of the week, but still good (it was a big movie night on Friday). Next highest was "Las Vegas" at 5.9/10. However, for the evening, NBC below CBS's 7.0/12 with a 6.5/11. Both networks tied for number 1 in the 18-49 adult demographic with 3.1. |

Celador Sells "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" |
|
Note: This does not affect ABC's "Millionaire" situation. Celador announced that they are selling the rights to the massive international game show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire". The show is seen in over 60 countries, though it's tapered off a bit (especially in the USA). Celador is selling the show for an estimated $70,000,000. They could get on the show and win 70 times, but I digress. The company, based out of England, stated that the British host will remain. We don't know how this is affecting the ABC show. ABC is still rumored to lose the rights in May 2006, but we're going for final confirmation with Michael Davies (I know a few people from Embassy Row occasionally read. Can you help us out?) |
